Macquarie Dragons was awarded the 2018 club championship trophy at the North West Sydney Women’s Football (NWSWF) AGM on 26 November 2018. This award recognises the efforts of all the players, coaches, managers, parents, partners and supporters of the female teams within the club community.
In addition, this award also recognises the successful efforts of all the competitive women’s teams in the NWSWF. Our club was awarded the title of Club Champions in 2018; a huge effort in a competition of more than 20 clubs.
Our club originally played in the NWSWF in the mid 2000’s with teams established by Kieran and Diane Gibson, Peter McGarry (former club president) and Kim Whyte (former club registrar). Whilst having two teams then, we were successful premiers in the AA7 division (a feat repeated by the AA7 team in 2017).
We reaffiliated in 2013 with two teams and in 2018 had nine teams in the association. Since 2013 a number of teams have been premiers and champions.
Our women’s teams, just like those in that play in the men’s/mixed competition, are consistently recognised for the sportsmanship and friendly approach on and off the field.
We are looking to build on our success and are keen for a fun year. If you are interested or you know anyone who would like to play or be involved in women’s football, please feel free to contact me.
